Password alias password is no longer the only way for users to enter ( login ) to Gmail . This is because Google has launched a new login method which is claimed to be much easier and safer than before.

“For the first time, we are rolling out passkeys, the easiest and most secure way to log into apps and websites . A big step towards a future without passwords," said Google in its official blog , Wednesday (3/5/2023).

Previously, when you wanted to log into a Gmail/Google account, users had to first type in the registered password . The password can be in the form of letters, a combination of letters and numbers, to use symbols.

With this novelty, the user still needs to enter a password. It's just that the way this passkey works is different from the password in Gmail first.

The pass lock allows users to log in just like unlocking a smartphone. Users can choose the type of passkeys which consist of fingerprint scanners , face scans , and PIN codes.

Even though it is somewhat easier, the security level is even higher than the old login method.

If a user logs in to an account using a fingerprint or face scan , the chances of hacking or data leakage occurring can be less and less. Because everyone has different face shapes and fingerprint lines.

Meanwhile, if the user chooses to use a PIN code, make sure the code registered is not a repeated or sequential number combination, such as 0000, 1234, and so on. The easier a passkey is , the easier it is to guess the passkey.

As a result, your account will actually be hacked and abused by criminals (hackers). As of today, the passkey system can be used by all Google account users .

Based on KompasTekno monitoring , Thursday (4/5/2023), Google users in Indonesia have also found this feature and can register a passkey in their Google account. If you have already registered, you can immediately use the passkey to log in to all Google services, such as Gmail, Drive, Meet, and so on. Passkey registration can be accessed via the g.co/passkeys link.

Ensure that the registered passkey , especially the PIN code, has a multi-digit code that is random, not sequential, and does not consist of the same numbers/letters. Once registered, the same passkey can be used immediately for other Google Workspace services.

As summarized by KompasTekno from GSM Arena , Thursday (4/5/2023), this passkey service is nothing new. This is because other services such as Paypal, Shopify, Docusign, Kayak, and Yahoo in Japan have implemented a passkey system as well.
